On June 1, 2009, China formally implemented the food safety law of the people's Republic of China, providing legal system guarantee for solving the current food safety problems systematically and orderly. With the two revisions of the food safety law in 2015 and 2018, the latest food safety law has been promulgated as the legislative basis of the food industry.

The regulations for the implementation of the food safety law will come into force on December 1, 2019. As a supplementary administrative regulation to the food safety law, the regulations jointly constitute the most important legal framework for the food industry, opening a new stage of China's food safety supervision.
