As a kind of special food, FSMP is specially processed and formulated for specific groups of people with restricted eating, digestion and absorption disorders, metabolic disorders or specific disease states to meet their special needs of nutrients or diet. FSMP consists of formula for special medical purpose for infants from 0 to 12 months old and formula food for special medical purpose for people over 1 year old. Such products must be consumed alone or in combination with other food under the guidance of a doctor or clinical dietitian.

At present, the government implements the filing management of technical institutions that undertake verification and evaluation work related to product testing, safety and function verification and clinical trials related to special food registration or filing.
