ECHA submits restriction proposal for four phthalates

On 1 April, 2016 ECHA submitted a restriction proposal for the phthalates DIBP, DBP, BBP and DEHP. The proposal was first put forward by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. Depending on the outcome of the assessment, the scope of the restriction might be broad or targeted specifically to articles or article groups that are the main contributors to exposure of the general populationSuch as flooring, bags, coated clothing, wallpaper, mattresses, balls, bathing equipment, footwear, Insulation and mouldings of wires and cables, decorative items, office supplies, car interiors, hoses, etc. And provide alternatives substances, such as DPHP, DOTP, etc. More information:

The substance is present in those articles above a concentration of 0.1% shall provide the recipient of the article with sufficient information, available to the supplier. if the substance is present in those articles in quantities totaling over 1 ton per producer or importer per year  producer or importer of articles shall notify ECHA.

 REACH Annex XVII  

Shall not be used as substances or in mixtures, in concentrations greater than 0,1 % by weight of the plasticised material, in toys and childcare articles.

CPSIA

Shall not be used as substances or in mixtures, each phthalate in concentrations greater than 0,1 % by weight of the plasticised material, in toys and childcare articles. 

CA65

Each phthalate shall not exceed 0.1% / 0.01%, etc.

GB 6675

Shall not be used as substances or in mixtures, in concentrations greater than 0,1 % by weight of the plasticised material, in toys and childcare articles.
